As the first form of acquiring goods and services, Barter Trading was what we depended on to survive. Fast forward to society today, we have created money as a construct for buying and selling things. This inherently can be said to have caused the tearing apart of society’s fabric and creating a disconnect among the human race.
Wanting to re-instill the idea of sustainability and interdependence, Indigoism – a local non-profit social enterprise, organized Barter Market in 2015 as a initiative to bring together the local creative, arts and music community as the first step in reconnecting society to its roots.
Since it’s first rendition, the barter market has become a gathering of fun-loving traders from all walks of life, which promises to offer an interactive experience like no other.
The fifth edition of Barter Market is a first-time partnership between Indigoism and Briefs.
Happening on 9th October 2016, the Barter Market event is held in collaboration with Singapore Archifest 2016. Don’t miss out on the crew from Briefs who will performing a range of activities from live drawing to live free style rapping, in exchange for something of course.
Not to worry for those who are joining for the first time, here are some simple guidelines.
Rules to follow at Barter Market:
- Vendors will list items they are seeking for in exchange for other goods/ services on the event day itself. More info on facebook.
- Each vendor will only trade when they can agree on the transaction and that the goods brought to them fit the exact bill of what they want.
- Attendees will be immediately turned away from each vendor when they try to offer the vendor money.
- Attendees can try to persuade vendors by offering them a skill or a service. Eg. Helping the vendors for the entire event, attract customers, singing a song.
- There will be a last table set up which will offer attendees the option of trading their bartered goods for mystery paper bags containing a form of basic sustenance.
