Yes, you heard that right. Comic-Con is no longer something that just happens in the USA, as Singapore will be having its very own version.
Before you dismiss this post as clickbait, I’ll have you know that this event is organised by ReedPop, who is also the organiser for the New York and Chicago Comic-Cons amongst many others.
Singapore Comic-Con (SGCC) was previously transformed and rebranded from Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC), and will be happening from the 7 – 8 of December 2019 at Marina Bay Sands convention centre. Expect the largest exhibition of toys, collectables, comics, cosplay and e-sports in Singapore—after all, it is probably the biggest pop culture event of the year.
While there won’t be any Hollywood superhero movie stars at this event, you can get a chance to meet prominent comic writers and illustrators, such as Donny Cates, whose past projects include Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy, and Sarah Anderson, whose daily life comic strips are all around the internet.
This is also the perfect chance for you to get a commissioned piece of Manga art, purchase one-of-a-kind trinkets or seek out that exclusive figurine you’ve always wanted.
If you’re really into it, you may even want to cosplay as one of your favourite anime, movie or game characters. Take part in the Championships of Cosplay, where the winner will get a sponsored trip to the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo and compete with other cosplayers from across the globe. You may register here with this link.
Of course, you will want something to wear to this event. The good news is that you do not have to wait until the actual day of the event in order to get your hands on some limited edition SGCC merch. Simply visit their online store link here.
Ticket prices begin at S$21 which are cheaper when you purchased online instead of at the door. Try to spot me if you can, I’ll be in my Iron Man Mark 85 suit.
