Escape Theme Park at may have closed years ago in Singapore, but there is currently a similarly named themepark in Teluk Bahang, Penang. And here’s the best part- this August 2019, it will be home to the longest water slide not just in Asia, but in the whole world as certified by Guinness Book Of Records.
Measuring 1,140m in length and 70m in height, the slide will begin at the top of a hill and the whole experience will take a full four minutes to finish.
From the top of the hill, visitors will slide down and cross Jalan Teluk Bahang before splashing into the theme park’s swimming pool. After the slide is completed, it will best the 605m high water slide in New Jersey’s Action Park in the Guinness Book of Records by almost twofold.
Despite the sheer size and distance of the slide, there wasn’t a lot of damage to the natural environment during the construction of the slide. Escape believes in “building around nature”, so the slide is masterfully built around the surrounding forestry without destroying much of nature. Installation of the slide components was also done manually, without the use of heavy machinery.
If you would like to experience this slide for yourself, an Escape Day Ticket to the Malaysian theme park costs RM147 (approximately S$49).
Currently, even without the addition of this slide, there are already plenty of rides at Penang’s Escape Theme Park for you to enjoy. One such ride is the Banana Flip, where there’s the perfect launching pad for you to perform all the insane mid-air stunts you have been dreaming of before plunging into the water.
The completed slide is sure to highlight Penang on the world map. I wouldn’t be surprised if tourists from all over the world start flocking to Malaysia just to experience the thrill of the longest slide in the world. Thankfully, we are only a few hours drive away from it from Singapore.
